The height and pitch of the roof is set at a very low angle to reduce the visual impact and is not suitable for traditional materials and hence is clad in zinc. The south facing elevation was designed to maximise solar heat gain and the internal planning is also split to reflect this with protected bedrooms to the north and the living accommodation to the south. In terms of materials the use of timber cladding refers to its traditional use on agricultural buildings, whilst the detailing reflects the current use as a dwelling.
